16x12. Oil on canvas. The olive trees on the left in this painting come from a photo I took while visiting the hospital near St Remy, where Van Gogh lived for a year. Using my artistic license, I chose to paint the beautiful chateau in the background that Cezanne had painted of his family home near Aix-en-Provence, “Jas de Bouffan, 1874”. The foreground and garden were created largely out of my imagination, although in reality both Van Gogh and Cezanne spent time walking and painting respectively on the grounds of the St.Remy Hospital and the lush woods of the Cezanne estate.
