Circles + Lines Basket – Sally Prangley

annealed steel wire + paper

What is this quirky basket all about? It reminds me of city skyscrapers crossed with mid-century shapes crossed with Times Square and mid-century colors. The unusual basket is made up of vertical and horizontal wire grids going around the sides that hold boxy rectangular and square shapes at right angles to each other. Lots of visual play going on here! The angular boxes are made from a variety of papers, with surface patterns of squares, rectangles, and circle shapes in contrasting colors. The Boxy Basket is a good example of what I often strive for in my art: a visual study in balanced asymmetry.
