Phyllis & Larey McDaniel

Dynamic artistic duo Larey and Phyllis McDaniel combined photography, music, and design in their thriving careers.

The couple’s paths crossed in Seattle, leading to a partnership in art and music as founding members of the Northwoods Quintet. Retiring from the Seattle Symphony didn’t slow down Larey’s passion for photography, and together, they created art exploring the connection between music and design. Phyllis passed away in 2024, but her work still shows in the gallery.

Their body of work demonstrates a reverence for natural environments. Each piece, whether in color or black and white, foregrounds the interplay between rugged, snow-capped peaks and the sheltering presence of evergreen forests. The viewer is invited into their world view, where the transitions of season, light, and weather evoke both serenity and grandeur.
